Module Aims

1. To introduce students to safe working practices required within a fashion workshop environment.

2. To introduce students to a range of introductory garment construction and pattern cutting techniques.

3. To introduce students to the properties of fabric, uses and construction type.

4. To introduce students to project management and systematic planning and recording of complex tasks.

Content Summary

This is the first technical module of the course and as such is designed to build the framework of technical understanding, systematic planning and project management.

Students will participate in workshops which will encompass pattern cutting, sewing, project management and construction. Emphasis will be placed on introducing knowledge, awareness and obtaining skills and techniques within a supportive and safe working environment.

By problem solving and troubleshooting through the process of pattern cutting, toiling, sewing and finish, students will gain an appreciation of what is involved in the engineering of a garment.

This module contains a six-week immersive learning element.
