Module Aims

The module aims to introduce students to the range of professional communication practices in contemporary culture and the cultural industries; It enables students to acquire academic and practical skills, social capital and resilience, and thus providing a foundation for the Media Culture and Journalism course.

Content Summary

The module will explore essential professional skills and academic practices,. examining areas such as the use of current technologies in audio sound, visual media, and moving image design.
Much of the content will be discussed through group work and will encourage students to improve their practical skills associated with cultural labour including developing creative work to a brief, constructive team-work and appropriate presentation skills.
This module contains a six-week immersive learning element.
This module: a) will adhere to, and engage with, all ethical considerations (as laid out in this document – see ‘H. Ethical Issues’, above); b) when and where appropriate, it will make full use of Faculty-wide teaching expertise and technical support in its endeavour to fully integrate practice with theory.
