Module Aims

The module aims to consolidate students’ ability to identify ways to find ideas for, and execute, long and short form journalistic projects making full use of mixed media for audiences in the social/mobile environment. Such output will be informed by an understanding of audiences and clients, regarding how journalistic skills can also be deployed at the interface of journalism with the PR and marketing sector.

Content Summary

This module will explore feature writing, print page design, podcasting, and mobile video. It will develop journalistic skills for application in journalism and commercial contexts (e.g. marketing) while employing a critical perspective on the interface between journalism and PR. As such, this module is a blend of applied theory and practice.

Finally, this module: a) will adhere to, and engage with, all ethical considerations (as laid out in this document – see ‘H. Ethical Issues’, above); b) when and where appropriate, it will make full use of Faculty-wide teaching expertise and technical support in its endeavour to fully integrate practice with theory.
