Module Aims

This module aims to enable the student to develop professional generic and subject skills through experience in the workplace. It allows students to critically evaluate practices in the workplace and reflect upon their own learning in that context. As such, it is a blend of applied theory and practice.

Content Summary

Students engage in at least 70 hours of work experience during this module; this can be made up of placements in more than one organisation. The nature and suitability of the work experience will be approved by the module leader prior to commencement.
In line with the QAA Code of Practice, tutors will offer advice to students regarding preparing and identifying suitable placement opportunities. Tutors will approve the placements before they can commence.
The module leader and/or module staff will monitor the student’s progress during their placement through online contact and visits when appropriate. Students will have access to taught sessions to support the development of the evaluative report and presentation for assessment.
The presentation element of assessment allows further learning through discussion and feedback on the participants’ experiences.
Finally, this module: a) will adhere to, and engage with, all ethical considerations (as laid out in this document – see ‘H. Ethical Issues’, above); b) when and where appropriate, it will make full use of Faculty-wide teaching expertise and technical support in its endeavour to fully integrate practice with theory.
