Module Aims

Olympic weightlifting exercises and their derivatives are a key component in the training of many athletes, and strength and conditioning coaches need to be able to coach these effectively. This module will enable students to acquire the knowledge, skill and practical competency to become a competent beginner coach in weightlifting.

Content Summary

The module will investigate the potential advantages to be gained from incorporating weightlifting based exercises into their programme. Analysis will be carried out of the biomechanical basis of effective performance and analysis of effective technique.
At the heart of the module will be the development of practical performance in all of the lifts, along with the development of effective coaching progressions for the lifts. Supporting this will be effective analysis and monitoring of performance, and the effective programming of weightlifting training.
