Module Aims
This module aims to provide learners with the theoretical underpinning and knowledge to enable them to lead and motivate the workforce in a climate of continuous change, focusing upon public service, ethical behaviour, values, inclusivity, innovation, excellence and evidence-based decision making.
Content Summary
This module will reflect on the role of a leader within a contemporary working environment. It will examine different types of organisational structure and establish how leaders can manage and motivate a diverse workforce within a contemporary, including a virtual, work environment. It will seek to establish current thinking, theory and practice that may be applied to a workplace in relation to:
• the organisational environment and the changing nature of work within organisations;
• organisational change and the processes and impact of change on organisations and those who operate within them;
• the concept of organisational culture and its possible surface manifestations together with the values and basic assumptions within organisations.
Managing and resolving conflict in the modern workplace including a discussion around the radical, pluralistic and interactionist approaches to organisational conflict.
The welfare and wellbeing of staff including the impact of stress on employee engagement and performance.
