Valid To 31 Aug 2027

Module Aims

1. An introduction for students to the design and theory of the creation of common automotive elements,

2. To provide students with experience in solving design problems involving automotive components,

3. To introduce students to supportive design tools and techniques applied to automotive design

Content Summary

This module will integrate the other subject areas of the course in the development of a design solution. Specific areas to be covered in the design development will include:

1. An introduction to automotive engineering design processes.

2. Design and selection of common machine elements for mechanical design problems.

3. Risk and reliability, quantitative and qualitative evaluation

4. Sustainable design including design for assembly/disassembly, reusability, recycling and sustainable source and environmental impact.

5. CAD and the design process including assembly modelling, use of toolboxes and specialist design of components.

6. Legal requirements, patents, standards, CE marking and product safety.

7. Design documentation: APQP and PPAP

This module will facilitate the development of Personal Development Planning through the delivery of the key skills identified below in the module
