Module Aims
The module aims to:
• Introduce and examine the developments of visual forms and texts, \\u2028stimulate thought, discussions and debate which encourages further reading, viewing and research
• To equip students with the technical and musical knowledge needed to begin composing music and designing sounds for film, video and related media.
• Introduce students to image creation techniques
Content Summary
This module compliments the skill building elements of the practice-based modules by delivering an introduction to developing visual awareness to complement students’ developing musical language through a series of workshops, seminars and screenings.
It explores the relationship between sound and music in supporting screen and other areas of the media. This will include:
• Visual media: Film, Television, Animation, Games
• Nonvisual media: Radio and Podcasting, Popular Music
The unit will introduce core technical, analytic and creative skills to combine sound and music for media in an effective way. Students will learn about specific media output and how music and sound work to support, or in some cases, even drive communication to specific audiences.
Formative assessment and tutorials will support the development of the original work to a standard suitable for public consumption. Students will attend regular technical classes in the use of creative media software and appropriate production techniques.
