Module Aims

This module aims to prepare students for a career in the creative industries by introducing them to the principles of effective communication and promotion.

Content Summary

Preparing students for a career in the creative industries, this module introduces the principles of effective communication for music producers. Skills learned will not only have an application for the second and third year of studies, but also for future employment. Such vocation-oriented training encourages students to develop an ethos of professionalism as music producers and artists. Students will be introduced to methods of effective communication and online / offline collaboration (including source control). Students will learn by observation, case studies and interaction with practitioners as well as the application of knowledge through project work. They will learn the importance of effective communication and how to manage client expectations. Students will produce visual materials and written documentation to promote music artists, collaborators, themselves and their work.
Students will learn by observation, case studies and interaction with industry as well as the application of knowledge through project work. Drawing on the experience of successful practitioners, students will identify and discover effective ways to meet the challenges and tensions of managing people and projects in the creative industries. Delivery of the module content will stimulate collaboration with other disciplines and involve task and challenge teamwork. In addition, the module provides a forum to discuss problems and share solutions that are common to all students regardless of their experience.
Students will develop an awareness of professional practices within the creative industries and communities and explore new emergent models that can inform the development of their practice.
