Module Aims
To enable committed and ongoing collaborative devising process open to artforms besides theatre.
To emphasise the importance of research in theatre making.
To encourage the exploration of theory with theatre and vice-versa.
Content Summary
This module is concerned with the intersection of theatrical play with theory and with other artforms. Explicitly, the module builds on the introduction to a broad range of performance related theory undertaken in the Perspectives on Performance module at Level 4. Following is an indicative approach to delivery of the module. The module leader places students into small theatre ensembles. These companies make theatre, carrying out collaborative research as they investigate pertinent connections with other artforms and relevant practitioners associated with \\\"devising\\\". As the year progresses, the companies become increasingly independent. Individuals and companies are expected to observe good studio practice as established in the Practical Lab and Professional Practice 1 modules at Level 4 throughout. Sharing by ensembles of research and work-in-progress before the whole year group will be a feature of the module. There will be an assessed sharing of work (that is, a performance) near the end of the first term and a final performance near the end of the module. There will also be a substantial individual written assignment.
