Module Aims

To enable students to engage in drama pedagogy, exploring the relationship between drama, theatre and education.

To introduce students to a range of theories, approaches and techniques for engaging young audiences in particular through drama and theatre.

To enable students to devise, produce, realise and evaluate a production and/or workshop project that serves a school/educational community.

Content Summary

This module is concerned with productive artistic, creative and human outreach to schoolchildren, schools and educational communities. It includes studio-based taught and production/workshop project components.

The taught component will explore theories, philosophies, techniques and approaches pertaining to theatre and education, facilitation skills, project planning, the development of support materials and production skills. Attendance (participation and engagement) is assessed throughout. Students undertake significant reflective and related critical writing through a series of set tasks as part of their coursework.

In the production component, in groups, students rehearse and deliver a live or virtual production or workshop for an educational community – or a simulated equivalent in the form of a live brief Careful guidance and support will be given to these projects by tutors.

Students will consolidate and build on applied drama, devising, text work and other skills developed at Level 5
