Document Version Information

Version 1
Valid From 01 Sep 2021
Valid To 31 Aug 2027

Module Aims

• Provide students with the opportunity to study a wide variety of forms of reflective practice.
• Offer comparative study of a number of contrasting forms of professional practices that integrate reflection into the work that they undertake.
• Provide the opportunity for students to develop their own reflective practice through creating an exploratory piece of practical work and accompanying documentation, informed by their study of this form of work in a variety of contexts.

Content Summary

The module will include a series of short case studies of reflective practice. These will vary each year but indicatively include:

• Contemporary storytelling practices
• Devising small-scale performance
• Dramaturgy
• Site specific performance
• Approaches to acting and directing
• Physical performance
• Writing and performance

Students will also explore modes of documentation and reflective writing as integral to their exploration of this work.

The main thread of the module will be working through the students’ own practice. Individually or in small groups students will work towards the making of a series of small pieces of reflective practice over the course of the module. This will culminate in the sharing of practical work for assessment plus the submission of a portfolio of documentation of this work plus two more chosen studies engaged in showing students’ journey over the module.
