Module Aims

1. To enable students to progress their creativity, cultural awareness and interpersonal skills through generating concepts, proposals and solutions through negotiated, self-initiated creative arts practice, developing skills and strategies in project management.
2. To encourage distinctive and speculative approaches to media and processes, to develop lines of enquiry through the application of experiential and theoretical knowledge underpinned by reflective practice, applying evaluation methods to measure outcomes and test efficacy.
3. To engage with current debate, research and to situate self-directed practice within the area of Arts, Health and Wellbeing in carrying out negotiated arts practice with individuals, groups and external organisations.

Content Summary

During this module students will engage in learning which builds on experience gained in Arts Practice 1 – Review and Develop, which positions their practice at an advanced level within the field of arts, health and wellbeing. Students will lead and successfully complete an arts’ project the form of which should be negotiated with their tutor and external partners, as appropriate. Students will produce a project proposal outlining aims, objectives, the context for the work and the methods they intend to employ. The focus of this module is the relationship between the students’ Arts Practice and the context within which it is situated, both critical and professional.
During the module students will be engaged in the following:

- Demonstrating advanced knowledge, skills and critical reflection.
- Negotiating, managing and critically evaluating a professional level self-directed project with individuals, groups and/or external organisations.
- Determining the purpose and form of intended arts-based research and methods employed to critique and evaluate the outputs and outcomes.
- Researching historical and contemporary arts and health practice, case studies, government policy and critical theory.
- Undertaking responsibility for consultation and project management giving due consideration to legal, ethical and health and safety issues.
- Applying imagination and creativity to develop ideas through to material outcomes, which may be temporary or permanent.
- Seeking help, expertise and experience within and outside a learning environment.
- Exercising independent judgement and critical self- awareness in advancing their work.
- Collaborating/consulting with groups/individuals sharing a common agenda and with public or voluntary sector organisations.
