Version 1
Valid From 01 Sep 2021
Valid To 31 Aug 2027

Module Aims

1. To negotiate, structure, organise and manage an ambitious, complex and creative programme within the field of Arts, Health and Wellbeing, applying resourcefulness, entrepreneurial and management skill to successfully complete a self-directed programme of work.

2. To develop empirical and theoretical knowledge, to undertake comprehensive research into practical and theoretical discourse informing the work of negotiated arts practice with individuals, groups and/or external organisations.

3. To exercise an evaluation of resolved work (which will include people involved in the self-directed project) and engage in critical reflection at an advanced level.

Content Summary

This module will build upon an evaluation of work completed during Arts Practice 1 and 2. Students are encouraged to develop their own means for scrutinising, analysing and developing their work based on quality frameworks for practice and theory of change. They are encouraged to become sceptical, curious, adventurous, innovative, creative and confident in their approaches to creative practice within the context of arts, health and wellbeing. By means of a process of negotiation with tutors and stakeholders (as appropriate), students are expected to arrive at a ‘Project Proposal’ detailing a programme of study, which will result in a major arts project that is ambitious in scope.

During the module students will be engaged in:

  • Undertaking different forms of self-directed learning employing both convergent and divergent thinking in investigation, speculative enquiry, visualisation and making, through which they are able to develop ideas, schemes and objects through to desired outcomes.

  • Developing and testing methods appropriate to the aims and objectives of their self-directed practice with individuals, groups and/or external organisations.

  • Employing appropriate evaluation methods with the people involved in the self-directed project to determine the efficacy of the project outputs and outcomes

  • Taking responsibility for consultation, project management and evaluation, giving due consideration to ethical, legal and health and safety issues.

  • Working with imagination and creativity to demonstrate the sustained application of advanced knowledge and skills.

  • Documenting and communicating their practice through diverse means, in a professional manner appropriate to their project.

  • Building a coherent narrative of the development of the work within a ‘Research Folio’, which reflectively and reflexively reviews their engagement with current practices, key turning points in the development of the project from planning through to resolution.

  • Employing appropriate evaluation methods with the people involved in the self-directed project to determine the efficacy of the project outputs and outcomes.
