Module Aims
To plan and complete a clinical assessment of peripheral and spinal joints and interpret the findings.
To recognise the typical clinical presentation of common sport and exercise injuries including red flags and the differentiation of serious pathology.
To critically apply current literature to determine the effectiveness of commonly used clinical assessment methods.
Content Summary
In this module students will study:-
Subjective assessment and subjective signposts for specific tissue behaviours
Red flags, red herrings and yellow flags
Observations and quick touch
Range of movement assessment including resisted range of movement
Manual muscle testing and palpation
Ligament stress testing
Special tests
Functional testing
Generating a diagnosis hypothesis and confirming a working hypothesis
Onward referral including imaging and orthopaedic consultation
All assessment components must be passed by the student.
Students must attend more than 80% of the module to complete the practical assessment
