Module Aims

To recognise and intervene in life threatening, potentially life threatening and limb threatening injuries sustained in the sports and exercise environment
To develop sports trauma skills in the pre-hospital emergency setting.

Content Summary

In this module students will study:-
Advanced trauma life support
Airway manoeuvres, simple airway adjuncts, supraglottic airways and surgical airways
Breathing assessment, percussion, auscultation, Thoracocentesis
Circulation assessment, radial pulse, fluid therapy, recognition of shock, bleeding management
Assessment of cervical spine injury, triple immobilisation and spinal extraction
Recognition and management of medical emergencies including (but not limited to) asthma, diabetes, hypo/hyperthermia, anaphylaxis, seizure disorders.
Emergency action planning
Trauma medications and medical gases

All assessment components must be passed by the student.

Students must attend more than 80% of the module to complete the practical assessment
