Module Aims

To explore equality and diversity in terms of i). the nine protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act and ii). the unequal health outcomes of different parts of Wales.

Content Summary

This module will explore three different, but related areas of equality in the context of the Welsh Health Service as they affect both the workforce and the communities the NHS serves:
1. We will analyse the use of Equality Impact Assessments, their strengths and weaknesses and how they can support leaders to understand the impact of their services, make changes and improve services.
2. We will critique health responses to the different health outcomes of people from different parts of Wales, for example, between poorer and more affluent areas.
3. We will consider the cultural competence needed to lead diverse teams and provide them with the support and challenge required to get the best out of each of them
