Module Aims

To critically evaluate the employee life cycle from recruitment and selection to engagement through to exit from employment. This module will support students to critically apply theoretical best practice in supporting employees at different levels throughout their whole employee journey to secure effective change, satisfaction and performance in NHS Wales 

Content Summary

  • Introduction to people management and leading a people strategy.  

  • Critically exploring recruitment and selection strategies and techniques. 

  • Implementing people management and performance strategies including dealing with difficult people; performance management systems and elements of relational communication.  

  • Critical exploration of Transactional Analysis in communication with employees.  

  • Motivation and employee engagement in a diverse organisation. Examination of motivation and engagement within the NHS. 

  • Coaching and mentoring as a development tool. Development of coaching and mentoring skills to enhance management and leadership practice.  

  • Managing people through change.
