Module Aims
• To develop knowledge and understanding of accounting terminology and language and the main principles of financial and management accounting, in order to enable students to interpret and evaluate various financial reports relevant to management’s decision-making process.
• To develop an awareness of the financial and regulatory environment in which organisations operate, and the way in which financial and regulatory issues impact upon managerial decision making.
Content Summary
One of the prerequisites of a successful manager and/or business owner is the ability to understand, interpret and evaluate financial information. Managers are often required to manage financial resources, interpret financial information and interact with accountants in their day-to-day roles, but the terminology of the accountant can sometimes act as a barrier.
Accounting for Non-Financial Managers demystifies the language of the accountant and builds skills to enable the understanding, interpretation and evaluation of financial information such as ‘financial statements’, ‘annual reports’ and ‘budgets’.
The module also compares the regulatory burdens of small and large organisations in areas such as taxation, company law, audit, corporate governance and ethics.
