Module Aims
1. To enable students to develop as reflective & analytical practitioners, utilising academic subject knowledge, legislation, professional policy and guidance, in youth and community work practice.
2. To develop knowledge of relevant mechanisms associated with the planning, monitoring, evaluation, resourcing and management of youth and community work in a contemporary context.
Content Summary
The module content links to the module aims (above) and wider course aims, in meeting the Welsh Government’s requirements for professional endorsement via adherence to the Education and Training Standards Committee Wales guidelines (ETS, 2020), to produce critically reflective students who are innovative, enterprising, digitally literate, commercially aware, and can develop the leadership skills required to deliver effective Youth & Community Work within a multi-agency and inter-professional context. (USW, 2030 Strategy).
Progression through this module will enable students to see themselves as ethically robust practitioners in identifying discrimination, oppression and/or exclusion, and be strategic in developing effective social action interventions to address these and promote inclusion (ETS, Code of Ethics, 2012). In this module students will continue to develop their reflective practice and professional values, moving focus to the ‘cultural’ (Thompson, 2019) aspect of their work with young people in communities.
In doing so, students will evaluate current youth and community work practice by seeking out and using relevant literature, research and practice evidence in order to question their own professional understanding (QAA, 2019).
Students will be required to link taught sessions from this module and across the wider suite of modules, to their reflective recordings, as part of the assessment for module SD2S07 and practice learning outcomes as outlined in Youth Work National Occupational Standards (CLDSC, 2019), Community Development National Occupational Standards (CLDSC, 2015).
