Module Aims

The aim of the module is to provide students with an opportunity to explore the creative industries, and in doing so for students to appreciate the extent to which the subject area pervades everyday lives, academia, the workplace and wider society.

Content Summary

This module comprises of a programme of study, delivered over 10 teaching weeks. Concepts are introduced and demonstrated in a small group (workshop/seminar) environment by the tutor, which is then closely followed by an opportunity for learners to discuss and try out these ideas for themselves through practical experimentation and practice.

This module is designed to introduce learners to a range of underpinning creative techniques, media and skills. It is designed to help learners develop their contextual awareness and creative capacity. It also encourages learners to develop their ability to communicate effectively in an artistic and creative context and to visualise and communicate their ideas.
The module takes a very practical approach to the subject area, encouraging learners to develop appropriate skills and knowledge that allow them to translate their concepts into tangible pieces of work delivered in a number of formats and using different media.
Learners are encouraged to experiment with ideas, techniques, skills and media both to help their technical, artistic and creative development but also to help foster confidence in their own ability in this field.
To promote interest and knowledge of creative applications, learners will have an opportunity to undertake a range of external visits to expose them to the work and ideas of others. Learners will be encouraged to explore these ideas during workshops, both in the form of discussion and as practical exercises.
