Module Aims

To enable the student to become competent in reading, writing, speaking and examination skills appropriate for successful progression to Higher Education study and to evaluate their own progress in these areas.

Content Summary

The module will provide the student with opportunities to explore their planning, production and evaluation of their written and oral academic skills.

Planning Academic Work: a number of skills will be explored and evidenced including time management; academic reading; note taking; researching; planning work.

Production of Academic Work: producing drafts; written work (essays, reports, posters); oral work (presentations, seminars); work produced under timed conditions; the importance of referencing and its conventions; using the library.

Evaluation and Reflection of Academic Work; identifying different ways of learning and how that impacts an individual; personal academic coaching sessions; reflecting on and interpreting feedback on assessments; self-reflection on written work, presentations, seminars and timed exercises at start of the course and on completion of the course.
