Module Aims

To provide the student with an understanding of four areas within organisational psychology; group dynamics, work place stress, corporate ethics and motivation including a critical review of the research and theories and their application to business settings.

Content Summary

The module is designed to provide the student with an overview of four of the most popular and relevant areas of the subject matter. This will include the major psychological approaches, the research methods used and a critical awareness of the subject matter.

Stress in the Work Place: analysis of medical and psychological models of stress and its causes; the usefulness of mental health statistics; and the differences between alternative treatments of stress.

Corporate Ethics: prejudice and discrimination laws; stereotyping

Motivation: what is motivation?; motivational traits vs environment; encouraging motivation.

Group Dynamics: what are group dynamics; areas of research within group dynamics including social cognition, social influence and social interaction; the ethics of social psychology research; methods of social psychological research.
