Module Aims

To enable the student to consolidate their knowledge, skills, competence, and confidence to become competent and confident midwifery practitioner throughout the childbirth continuum.

Content Summary

Applying accountability: increased level of knowledge, skill, performance, and professionalism – transition from student to registrant, being more autonomous in practice – working with indirect/ minimal supervision in practice.

Applying for first post and preparation for employment/registration with NMC.

Being prescriber ready, the implications of safe and effective management of medicines related to midwifery practice, demonstrating the ability to progress to a prescribing qualification following registration.

Upholding the principles of lifelong learning and enhancing critical reflection skills to appraise and develop own performance and practice as a midwife.

Consolidation of Domain 6 midwifery skills - developing knowledge and skills to safely demonstrate evidence-based best practice in core and domain-specific skills and procedures as per Year 3 of the Practice Assessment Document to include continuity of care.

Developing commitment to enhance further as a midwife, through career pathways that may include practice, management, compassionate leadership, education, research, and policy, taking responsibility for engaging in ongoing education and professional development opportunities.
