Module Aims
• To define and research an Animation historical context and relate it to the present
• To provide opportunity for students to evaluate these references in the context of their chosen specialism
• To develop a proposal document to inform the final year coursework
Content Summary
The module will allow students to study key schools, practitioners and films of contemporary national and international animation and aid their understanding of the historical evolution and visual characteristics of the work of artists, designers and craftspeople in, or associated with, animated film.
They will also study key technological advances and their effect on the animation industry along with discussion of writings and critiques about a range of art, craft and design work.
Students will be asked to form analysis and findings related to specialist work through applying appropriate methods of research and information retrieval and investigate how historical, contextual and contemporary practice influence students’ specialist pathway. The student will complete the module by either establishing and defining the dissertation structure, and develop a proposal documentation that they will pitch to their peers and tutors, to include proposal hypotheses, associated literature survey, and proposed methodology(ies)., or propose a story and script idea to include potential story, character/s and themes, and associated literature and audio-visual survey.
