Module Aims
• To provide the opportunity for students to develop a substantial and significant piece of writing.
• To develop in students an independent and responsible approach to the research and development process of screenwriting.
• To develop in students an understanding of professional practices, and contexts of script and screenwriting in the wider animation & creative industries, including the requirements of commissioning agencies and broadcasters, in relation to intended audience.
• To deepen understanding of the nature and forms of drama through the medium of the animation screenwriting process.
• To develop and extend innovative approaches to the medium explored in earlier modules.
Content Summary
This optional module is designed to enable the students to develop their previously acquired skills, including the specialist knowledge gained in the Level Five specialist module, AA2S27 Sequential Narrative, and utilise their knowledge of animation and film theory, in the development, planning and execution of a major piece of writing. The module will critically investigate animation, narrative structure, character development, generic conventions and the use of mise-en-scène, as they relate to the writing process. In addition, students will be made aware of the forms and functions of ancillary documents.
