Module Aims
• To enable the student to create, plan and develop the appropriate pre-production materials to form a project proposal.
• To develop an appreciation of budgetary and logistical limitations including the legal aspects of copyright protected material and the creation of original intellectual Property (IP).
• To develop in the student an appreciation of the independent and commercial animation market places, and their work within this context.
• To enable the student to self-evaluate and reflect critically, in written form, on their production work, situating their practice within the traditions of their chosen medium.
Content Summary
The final year project affords the student the opportunity to produce an appropriate body of work within their chosen specialist area: animated film, showreel, modelmaking, or illustration for media.
For this module the students will undertake the following, to be submitted as a Pre-Production Proposal Portfolio:
1. Idea development, research including appreciation of genre, industry and audience expectations;
2. Planning of a production schedule for full duration of the project;
3. Creation of the project ‘bible’ to include concept, character and layout design;
4. Compilation of the associated Proposal Portfolio.
Throughout the development period and subsequent production the students are to maintain a critically reflective blog.
The students are to work within the chosen specialism, broadly, animation or art/design, appropriate to 2D drawn, or stop-motion, including hybrid and mixed media approaches. This will reflect the development of their work and skill-base throughout the first two years of the course.
This module contains a six-week immersive learning element.
