Module Aims

The aim of the module is to:
• Introduce the student to the development of children and young people.
• Highlight the value of observational skills in practice.
• Explore the work of developmental theories and the biopsychosocial influences on development

Content Summary

• This unit looks at how children and young people from birth to 18 years develop.
• It will explore and reflect on the biopsychosocial influences on development, and differences between development and learning.
• Theories of child development, including behaviourism (classical), constructivism, social constructionist, ecological systems theory, psychoanalytical, social learning and humanistic theory will be explored, together with the importance of observation and intervention.
