Module Aims

Initiate and refine a self-defined project/brief and apply this as a framework for the development of a significant body of work.

Support the fully assured use of technical and practical skills and to encourage innovation and a sophisticated

response to the creation of a resolved final body of work.

Support the ability to organise, plan and control the varied resources required by a major photographic body of work.

Develop an understanding of audience and client with respect to the creation of a final body of photographic

work.

Demonstrate a well-informed understanding of the structures and networks that characterise contemporary photography

particularly those closely related to developing career plans

Content Summary

This module provides a framework for students to self-initiate and develop independent study, research, evaluation and refinement of chosen ideas and to develop these over time into a refined major body of photographic work, prior to final fabrication and publication. This is most effective through the process of experimentation and evaluation.

Appropriate visual and written research are developed to support the progress of students practice through a series of stages and stopping off points, with both summative and formative assessment playing a key role in ensuring this development.

This module encourages and supports visual work and working practices that demonstrate a high level of maturity and professionalism through their clarity, coherence and control and which represents a productive synthesis of previously learned theoretical and technical knowledge.

It supports a strongly motivated expression of individual ideas and opinions that are clearly defined with informed reference to relevant audiences as well as specific areas of the creative industries.

This module contains a six-week immersive learning element.
