Module Aims
Equality and inclusion are fundamental values underpinning the course, and the professional role of the Learning Support Worker. This module aims to support candidates:
- to recognise equalities and inequalities in their own families, communities, the institutions in which they work and study and the wider social context
- to develop critical awareness of their own and others’ identities and norms in relation to their own practice as learning support workers
- to develop critical understanding of learners at risk of marginalisation or exclusion from the full depth and range of learning opportunities
- to recognise their own role in enhancing equality and inclusion and supporting positive change within their institution and the wider community

- sharing and acknowledging the diversity of identities, histories, interests, circumstances and aspirations within the module group and in their placement
- inclusion, representation and equality for learners and staff in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality and gender identity
- disability rights, equality of access and opportunity
- social and economic inequalities and intersectionality in education and beyond
- accessing, engaging with, and sharing ideas from published professional/academic articles
- actions for change in further, adult and vocational education and beyond
