Module Aims

To provide students the opportunity to translate knowledge and understanding of their degree with a commercial/industrial employer or partner university.

To develop knowledge, skills and practices applicable to the sector.

To build a professional identity, enhance graduate attributes and employability.

Content Summary

This module enables students to undertake a work placement to complete the course sandwich year. 

Opportunities are offered through the University’s careers portal or are sourced by students.

Types of Placements

Placements will be approved based on one of the following criteria:

  1. A work placement that directly aligns to the student’s academic discipline or course

  2. A work placement that develops the student’s graduate attributes

Students must complete a Faculty placement form, with a clear justification of which criteria their proposed placement activity meets. All placements require University approval.

Requirements

To complete the placement, students must agree to adherence with the student code of conduct, the University’s health and safety procedures for work placements and intellectual property guidelines. Students will work under the policies and procedures of the host organisation or group.

Professional Practice Academy

The preparatory workshop incorporates challenge-based scenarios and training sessions in preparation for placements. This includes professional personality types, teamwork and communication skills.

Academic Supervision

Students receive academic mentorship during their placement.
