Module Aims

The module will provide a basis for study for students to:
1. Evidence their further engagement in a legal services environment
2. Enhance their ability to critically appraise their performance so as to be prepared for graduate employment opportunities

Content Summary

This module continues to build upon the clinical legal skills embedded at level 4 and level 5 (Clinical Practice 1 module), enabling students to further develop the skills required for legal practice.

Students will:
• volunteer at the Legal Advice Clinic (LAC) for the equivalent of 1 day per week for 20 weeks. During this time students will be allocated into ‘student firms’ and will be supervised by a qualified Clinic supervisor
• engage in a refresher induction programme
• keep a diary during their placement to evidence and support their learning. This will also form a record of any Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) undertaken, which will be required should a student wish to subsequently claim QWE gained during the placement
• have the opportunity to develop their legal practice skills including research, writing, drafting, interviewing and advising. Advice and assistance will be provided to clients in a range of areas including employment law, family law, housing law, consumer law, civil litigation, business law and general probate queries.
