Module Aims

This module aims to facilitate a substantial professional development experience for marketing students.

Over the course of 10 weeks students will complete an approved 70-hour community-based volunteering experience and an additional 30-hour approved self-directed learning experience that enhances their knowledge of marketing.

Content Summary

Marketing managers need the ability to collaborate with diverse groups of stakeholders to drive their organisation towards success. Volunteering is an excellent way for students to develop their ability to collaborate, as well as to enhance other marketing-related behaviours, such as creativity, responsibility, and commercial awareness. In this module students undertake 70 hours of volunteering for an approved community group or charity over 10 weeks.

To further their professional development students also complete 30 hours of marketing-related professional development from a pre-approved list of activities.

The module will begin with an induction programme which addresses the key aspects of the work and assessment requirements.

Important note: Students are responsible for sourcing their volunteering placement, but there is support available from the Business School’s Placement Officer and the University’s Employability Team.

To pass the module, students must complete and evidence the 70 volunteering hours and the 30 hours of self-directed learning.
