Module Aims

enhancing Academic Success supports and compliments subject discipline from an academic context to enable and empower undergraduate business students.

The module evaluates and critiques students’ core competencies and preparedness for direct entry to level 6 study. It then builds on these core competencies by facilitating student’s application of fundamental interpersonal, academic and technical skills.

Content Summary

This non-credit bearing module that supports students in the development of effective academic skills development and also business skills for successful future employment.

It is a practical module designed to ensure direct entry students to level 6 top-up degrees, fully understand the expectations and requirements of higher education study at this level.

As such this supports students who are:

Progressing from HND and Foundation Degrees (or equivalent) in order to top up to a full degree.

Students studying in the UK for the first time

Students for whom English is not their first language.

The module content covers study skills, ICT and business skills, with practical applications of these to workplace scenarios to enhance future employability.

Indicative content includes the following interrelated areas:

Referencing and understanding plagiarism

Essay and business report writing

Presentation skills

Research skills

Effective group/team working

Time management, planning and prioritising workloads

Professional development and employability:

Self analysis and reflection to identify areas of development

Constructing Personal Development Plans

Career planning

ICT skills:

Word-processing – to enable the professional presentation of assessments, such as essays and business report

Use of spreadsheets to analyse and present data, such as pivot tables and graphs

Use of PowerPoint for presentations with voice overs

Researching and accessing online resources

Electronic calendars and diaries
