Module Aims

To draw on a range of theoretical influence (e.g. systemic, cognitive behavioural) to equip trainees with the skills and knowledge to intervene with young people, families, couples and groups and in the context of wider social-cultural-political and professional systems.

To support trainees to develop an advanced ability for critical reflection on the self in multiple contexts, including in professional teams and groups as participant, facilitators and leaders.

Content Summary

Developing wider understanding of the bi-psycho-social contexts within which couples and families exist, including working from an EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) standpoint.

Considering how an understanding of lifespan / development can inform relational processes.

Practice issues – working with complex and adverse bi-psycho-social issues in families and groups.

Building skills for engaging in reflective practice, including in recognizing and working with interactional patterns in clinical, team, family and group settings.

Theories of group process, development and processes of change in groups.

Skills development through experiential exercises, case discussion groups and the development, facilitation and evaluating of group.

Reflective practice - the consideration of one’s own personal family and cultural experience from a systemic perspective and to examine how these influences professional practice.
