Module Aims
The module will provide students with an introduction to the rules on family law.
The module will provide a basis for study for students to;
1. Develop a clear understanding of the law relating to the family;
2. Develop a clear understanding of the social and political context within which law relating to the family operates;
3. Analyse and apply the law relating to the family.
Content Summary
The module will cover the following indicative content:
• The formation of adult relationships: marriage, civil partnerships and cohabitation
• Nullity
• Forced marriage
• Domestic abuse
• Divorce and judicial separation
• Financial provision on divorce and separation
• Family property
• Child support
• Parenthood and parental responsibility
• Private law relating to children – The Children Act 1989
