Module Aims

The module will provide students with an introduction to the legal regulation of banks and the banking system.

The module will provide a basis for study for students to;

1. Develop detailed knowledge and understanding of the legal regulation of banks and the banking system, including banks and their customers, money, supervision and regulation of banks, lender of Last Resort and capital adequacy and liquidity

2. Critically analyse the law in respect of banks and the banking system.

3. Develop knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues in relation to financial crime

Banking and Finance is a broad field of study and the module will cover the following indicative content:
• What is a Bank
• The Bank/Customer Relationship
• What is Banking
• The Supervision and Regulation of Bank
• The Regulation of Bank Capital and Liquidity
• Lender of Last Resort and Bank Resolution/Rescue
• Elements of Financial Crime (Fraud/Money Laundering/Market abuse and Insider Dealing)
