Module Aims

To enable the student to consolidate their knowledge, skills, competence, and confidence to become competent and confident occupational therapy practitioner.

Content Summary

Applying accountability: increased level of knowledge, skill, performance, and professionalism to enable transition from student to registrant, being more autonomous in practice. Working with indirect/ minimal supervision in practice.

Active collaboration with service users in the planning, provision, and evaluation of occupational therapy intervention.

Interprofessional working in the management of critical/major incidents and demonstrating shared decision making in action. Working in partnership with other team members to ensure best outcomes for the service users.

Developing compassionate leadership in the management and supervision of others. Role modelling compassionate leadership and demonstrating the professional values of occupational therapy through words and actions.

Understanding the limits of practice and when to seek advice or refer to another professional.

Applying for first post and preparation for employment/registration with HCPC.

Upholding the principles of lifelong learning and enhancing critical reflection skills to appraise and develop own performance and practice as an occupational therapist.

Effective team and inter/multi-professional working. Active listening. Proactive leadership and liaison with other professions. Shared decision making.

Developing commitment to enhance further as a occupational therapist, through career pathways that may include practice, management, compassionate leadership, education, research, and policy, taking responsibility for engaging in ongoing education and professional development opportunities.

Development and application of compassionate leadership skills required to support, manage, and supervise staff and students, where appropriate, in the provision of Occupational Therapy care, promoting reflection, providing constructive feedback, and evaluating and documenting their performance.

Audit and evaluation of services to ensure best, evidence-based, safe practice.

Critical reflection in and on practice.

Consideration of own role and that of other professionals in the management of major incident events and safeguarding simulated events.

Students will also be informed as to the practice requirements for Part 3 of the Practice Assessment Document.
