Module Aims

The module will provide students with an introduction to the law relating to children.

The module will provide a basis for study for students to;

1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the law relating to children;
2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the social and political context within which law relating to children operates.
3. Analyse, evaluate and apply the law relating to children.

Content Summary

The module examines the law relating to children in general and will cover the following indicative content:

• Criminal laws relating to children e.g. abduction, child cruelty, FGM, sexual offences.
• Child protection (wardship, care, supervision, secure accommodation, adoption)
• Children’s Rights (domestic and international)
• Children in conflict with the law (youth court and juvenile justice)
