Module Aims
To enhance the students understanding of game mechanics, game artefacts, game aesthetics and gameplay.
To emphasise the importance of engaging with an iterative design process by developing game prototypes and improving them using a variety of methods including critique, playtesting, and critical reflection.
To impress upon students the importance of time management and individual responsibility when working within a team
To develop the student's ability to communicate ideas clearly and present work professionally.
Content Summary
This module explores the underlying structures of games through paper-based and digital case studies, and how this knowledge of game design influences the creation and development process.
Students develop their practice within the studio space through a creative project. The expectation is for a digital game world to be created that conforms to the requirements of a set brief.
This will allow for individual and group responses where games are developed through experimentation and encourages an engagement with a diverse range of ideas, styles and working methods. Transferable skills will become part of the learning process.
Key practical skills and theoretical debates will be delivered through technical workshops and lectures, respectively.
