Module Aims

To allow the student to make preferred choice for future study and help with specialising towards a job role.
To develop creative, conceptual and design skills involved in the preparation of the proposed project.
For the student to become more critically aware of the potential for a creative career and its opportunities.

Content Summary

This module aims to give the student greater clarity in employment and career direction. This will result in a level of confidence in expressing themselves and their creative ideas to clients in the world of work and potential level 6 study at USW.
As the student develops a greater sense of their skills and future direction, we shall expect a body of work within the student's specialist area. Module content should include -
A report based on a skills audit and current industry needs.
Create, build and maintain an active work based social media platform such as LinkedIn.
Understand creative and cultural trends and needs in industry
Have a clear understanding of the platforms and content that are being used
This information will be used to inform and then create a portfolio artefact which will be designed and produced so that students can start to actively market themselves towards their chosen USW course / job role or other. It should include one of the following -
A 2D game concept item for pre-production.
A 3D game model for real time engines.
A level design of map for a digital game platform.
A game play feature or mechanic.
A game design or game art document based on a theme.

By researching the current needs of industry, an understanding of the world of work and their own skills, students will be able to become self-aware as people undertaking a career in the creative industries and the direction it should take.
Also includes a work placement (with a minimum of 70 hours) opportunity to enhance qualification and personal development.
