Module Aims

The aim of the module is to:
• To reflect on equality, diversity, and inclusion and to examine the legal framework for equality of opportunity and the rights of children and young people.

• To understand and have an awareness of how to lead, manage and improve service within children’s care, play, learning and development using child centred approaches

Content Summary

This module will examine models of good practice and procedures that allow learners to gain the understanding and skills required for a whole system approach to equality diversity and inclusion. An explanation of the complexities of models of disability and how this shape organisational structure, along with the potential barriers to equality and inclusion affecting children and young people who are vulnerable and experiencing poverty and disadvantage. The impact of legislation (UNCRC 1989, Equality Act 2010, CIW, The Children Act 2004), support services (i.e. Flying Start, Children in Wales, Children’s Commissioner for Wales), Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act 2018, Future Generation and Wellbeing Act 2015, Children and Young People’s Measure 2011, Social Services Wellbeing Wales Act 2014 and working in partnership and its effectiveness in supporting equality, inclusion and diversity for children and young people within the Welsh context.
