Module Aims
The group project will enable students to draw together technical knowledge and skills and apply these, under supervision, to the solution of an engineering problem.
To enable students to develop project skills in a team environment.
Each student will have a distinct role in the project with a clearly defined set of aims and objectives. The importance of this module is to integrate the individual contributions from the team in producing a combined solution for a reasonably complex manufacturing machine. Teamwork is key to the overall solution, but a strong individual performance will be needed from each team member and marks awarded accordingly
Content Summary
The group project will enable students to realise the importance of effective teamwork and planning. It will require them to formulate satisfactory technical solutions to relatively complex problems, taking account of any social or environmental issues.
Students will be expected to work as part of a team. The management structure of the team will be determined by the team. Regular review meetings will be held with staff at which the progress of work will be monitored and reviewed.
The team will have to clearly define the need in terms of specifications, and to draw up a project plan and the allocation of work amongst the group that will achieve the stated objectives.
On completion of the project, the team will give an oral presentation of their findings and produce a fully documented report.
Further information is provided in the School Project Policy document, which should be read in conjunction with this module information.
