Module Aims
The module introduces students to the visible and non-visible skills needed in the professional workplace. It develops the students’ ability to analyse objectively and reflect critically on their professional outputs, their interpersonal and their communication skills. In addition the teaching and learning (T&L) experience is intended and designed to build students’ confidence and competence in dealing with professional interactions and communications, oral and written, in the workplace.
Content Summary
On this module students will acquire and learn how to refine a range of skills enabling them to engage with insight, confidence and maturity in a range of professional settings and contexts. The precise content and approach of workplace-focused T&L will depend on individual students’ interests, long term aims and employment ambitions:
- students wishing to graduate with a TESOL Teaching Certificate (in addition to their degree) will study pedagogic focused content areas such as teaching methodologies, classroom management skills and language development skills.
- students wishing to concentrate on preparing for non-teaching workplaces will study areas including: oral presentation skills; editing and proofreading; workshop-design, leading and facilitation.
