Module Aims

To develop student understanding of Contact Administration procedures related to the Management of Construction Contracts in Practice during pre and post contracts stages.

To develop knowledge and the skills required to manage the procedures linked to procurement and tendering processes for construction contracts.

Content Summary

The purpose of the this module will be to investigate the main forms of contract and how these operate by exploring:

• Roles and responsibilities of the parties, the Construction team under standard forms of contract and at a practical level.

• Procurement Routes and Risk allocation

• Various forms of Contract and Contract Pricing Strategies and Client requirements related to contract choice to include discussion on the benefits of NEC and JCT contracts

• The role of letters of intent and the Battle of the Forms. Estimates versus Tenders.

• Pre and post tender contractual procedures including preparing for tender, the tender process and post tender and contract execution activities such as valuations, payments, variations, final account and key elements of negotiation and conflict resolution.
