Module Aims

The module aims to deliver an underpinning of the technical requirements of the live music environment, contextualised through the delivery small format events, alongside the foundational knowledge of working as a freelancer within industry.

Content Summary

Through a series of lectures and practical workshops, this module will broadly cover subject matter in the following areas:

Understanding the sound of live music on stage and associated audio system design considerations

Analysing the role of amplification & reinforcement of sound

Investigate mixing and monitoring techniques utilised in a live music environment through the use of digital mixers.

Recognise the requirements of artists in order to be able to perform comfortably and successfully.

Understanding the use of lighting as a complementary element to live music performance, including an exploration into its history

Outline basic optical requirements of lighting fixtures through exploration of lenses, mirrors and other optical elements within lighting fixtures

Examine the link between lighting colour, texture, mood and emotive impact.

Experiment with the technology required to achieve the desired goal.

Understand what is required from tax, insurance and professionalism perspectives to become a freelance technician within industry
