Module Aims
The aim of the module is to provide the student with an understanding of Transnational Criminal Law.
The module will provide a basis for study for students to:
Understand transnational criminal law and to appreciate the global significance of certain forms of criminal behaviour.
Introduction to the procedural and institutional responses to global crime.
Consider the procedures for international cooperation against transnational criminals including jurisdiction, police cooperation, asset recovery and extradition.
Foster a critical awareness of the limitations of the current frameworks for the control and detection of transnational crime.
Content Summary
The module will cover a wide-ranging and contextual examination of the rules of media law including the following indicative content:
Drug trafficking.
Money laundering and financial crime.
Consider, at a global level, the enforcement of sanctions to counteract transnational bribery and corruption.
Environmental crime such as the illegal movement between states of toxic and hazardous waste and other illegal chemicals; illicit trade in wildlife; illegal trade in timber and the Illicit trade in ozone depleting substances.
Consider the global nature of corporate bodies and consider the need for a more ‘joined-up’ response to corporate liability for corporate criminality.
Human trafficking.
