Module Aims

The aim of the module is to provide the student with an understanding of the framework of international and EU law as a foundation for other modules on the course which consider areas of law from an international perspective.

The module will provide a basis for study for students to appreciate the principles, sources and jurisdiction of International and European law and the role of key actors.

Content Summary

The module will cover a wide-ranging and contextual examination of the rules of media law including the following indicative content:

Principles, sources and key actors in Public International Law.

Enforcement and the resolution of disputes.

The relationship between national and international law.

Principles, sources and key actors in Private International Law.

Jurisdiction and choice of law.

Recognition and Enforcement of Judgments.

Institutions and sources of European Union Law.

The relationship between EU and national law.

Enforcement of EU law

Substantive issues such as the four freedoms and competition.

EFTA and the EEA
