Module Aims

This module will explore and compare theories of group and creative work for/ with young people. It will explore the place of creative and group work for young people within Social Care settings aligned to the Social Pedagogy Professional Association’s Social Pedagogy Standards (SPPA, 2022).

It will link closely to practice providing an opportunity to design, facilitate and evaluate group work activities with young people; using a range of planning and evaluation tools that can be used to develop effective group work practice.

Content Summary

This module will consider the theories of group development and group dynamics

The use of group work in a variety of settings

The use of Social Pedagogy approaches and application of social pedagogy theories in group work

Strategies and theories of group work (Tuckman etc)

Strategies for providing effective group work as both an informal and formal process of intervention.

Explore the benefits of creative group work as a method of team development, conflict resolution and personal development.

Consider the different approaches needed when designing inclusive activities for a diverse audience including gender, race, religion etc. in group work

Facilitation Skills

Planning and delivering effective group work through the use of planning tools (NAOMIE)

Group work and employability, engaging NEETs through group interactions

Group work within accredited Informal education programmes

Identify a range of methods of delivering group work including the use of digital technology
