Version 1
Valid From 01 Jul 2023
Valid To 31 Aug 2029

Module Aims

To provide an opportunity for students to understand the theoretical and practical concepts related to social care practice with young people. The module is underpinned by the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Health and Social Care (CCfW, 2013b) and the Social Pedagogy Professional Association’s Social Pedagogy Standards (SPPA, 2022).

Content Summary

This module builds on the learning gained during the students’ L4 placement, and exposes them to a broader range of approaches and intervention strategies that can be applied on placement. These are underpinned by taught sessions on theories relating to reflective practice, social pedagogy and person-centred approaches, social care values and ethics, planning, monitoring and evaluation processes involved in delivery of social care work with young people.

The opportunity to relate theoretical frameworks to practice is key as students will keep critically reflective recordings to monitor individual learning that evidence ability to relate theory to practice. Reflective recordings will link to social care practice and evidence the professional values and principles of social pedagogy and social care work with young people.

This module is planned and developed in accordance with USW’s placement protocols.
